Starting Some Fall Sewing

Daisy has several beautiful Garnet Hill tees from last winter that fit in the shoulders, but are too short to wear with a skirt or pants.

(I was actually flipping through the Garnet Hill catalog this week and I saw the same shirts offered with a "New longer length, by customer request!").

Hmm. Too short. Maybe I could just add a skirt, like I used to do before I liked to sew? Definitely the way to go--a stretch woven attached to the bottom of this pale blue ruffled top.

That's a great idea. Looks comfortable and cute too.

Thank you so much! What a great idea and so providential considering I am beginning the task of the seasonal wardrobe change for my three girls. You're so smart :)

What a great idea. It's obvious, really, but I've never thought of it!

Simple and effective sewing, plus points for prolonging the life of a garment! :-) Sometimes it's useful to go back to our roots, obviously...

Yes, try it!
I bought one of those for myself, but the fabric was so thin - a disappointment. But it looks awfully cute on Daisy!

I'm joining the chorus to say what a very nifty idea! I love how resourceful this is. You say you have done this before? However did you come up with the idea in the first place, Anna? I am intrigued and so interested.

Or maybe a strip of white jersey, several inches wide, sewn to the bottom to give it a layered look - would that look to clunky/obvious?

Exactly what I've been planning to do to my daughter's shirts...as soon as I figure out a schedule with a new baby in the house!

That's a clever idea for extending good clothing's usefulness!

As soon as I saw that top I thought "that looks just like the (grown-up) Garnet Hill tops!" Beautiful. Your solution is excellent--I love the fabric combination there.

Daisy's braids are perfection.

I used to do that with my middle daughter's decorated T's, received as gifts or rewards. She HATED to wear pants, so I gathered up some cute coordinating fabric and stitched it to the hem of the T's. She loved those dresses. Now she's too old (23) for Mom to do that but she still rarely wears pants.
